02 // What’s inside

New where it matters.

  • 256GB of solid state where a spinning hard drive used to be. Room for about 28,000 songs, no moving parts, nothing to skip and nothing to fail.
  • 2.5× the battery. Around forty hours on a charge — a full week of commutes without touching a cable.
  • USB-C in place of the 30-pin port. One cable for everything you own.
  • A new display, hand-fitted from new-old-stock and checked pixel by pixel before it ships.
  • Preserved — the Wolfson DAC, the chip that gives this generation its sound. Tested, kept, and built around.

Every part that wears out is new. Every part that made it worth saving is still here. That is the whole idea, held in one hand — and the colour is the only place it shows.

A DAC is the chip that turns a digital file into the signal your headphones actually play. Apple fitted this Wolfson chip to a handful of iPod generations, then moved on, and nothing since sounds quite like it. So we test it, keep it, and rebuild everything around it — new storage, battery, port and display — so the one part that cannot be bought new never has to be.

That depends on you. Batch size follows reservations, and every unit is built by hand one at a time — so the number is set by what a person can build well in a month, not by a marketing target.

You get your reservation back in full, to your original payment method. No conditions and no store credit. We’ll email you either way before anything else is charged.
